Simple Steps to Improve Your Vision With Eye Yoga by Dr. Rahi's Integrative Aesthetics™ Specialist in Beverly Hills, CA

You’re probably reading this on a smart phone…and most of us spend hours to days to years staring at our smart phone screens: this is not without consequence.

In the pursuit of a more virtual social life we have resulted in deteriorating vision: the time spent looking in one direction close up has weakened our eye muscles and weakened our visual neural circuits which in turn has resulted in poorer vision.

Sadly, little is known or taught on how to improve this vision other than annual eye exams and stronger prescription for glasses and contacts. Is it possible to reverse or prevent certain eye conditions (such as being near sighted)?

According to many studies and centuries of practice it is possible! The art and science of eye yoga is something that has been practiced by many, including Buddhist monks. Anecdotal evidence has shown reversal of legal blindness from various conditions by practicing several hours of eye yoga per day

Personally after a long day looking at papers, computer screens and my phone, I know my eyes feel tired. I rarely spend time looking in the horizon or far away: and I bet that is the case for anyone reading this. I do, however, make it to the yoga studio at least every or every other day.

So when I stumbled across this century old obscure yoga practice I was confident that it would not only help my over Instagrammed eyes but it can help anyone who is willing to put in the effort – as with any good practice.

Here are 3 easy ways to begin your eye yoga practice: reassess every two weeks to see if you notice a difference

  1. Close your eyes and meditate on the colors blue and black – think of midnight – for approximately 15-20 min/day
  2. Lie on your back, put feet flat on the ground, close your eyes and start moving your eyes left to right, then right to left, then up and down and down and up then diagonally and lastly keep your eyes pointed towards your 3rd eye – the area in-between your eyebrows pointing towards your forehead (6th Chakra) – approximately 10-15 min/day
You can also place your palms on your eyes for added darkness: palming helps give your neuro-circuits and optic nerve a true rest – sometimes even more more restorative than sleep
  3. Either during sunrise or sunset sit directly in front of the sun with your eyes closed and allow your eyes to take in the sunlight: approximately 15 min/day
